Formula for Success

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a very challenging book to summarise or even highlight the key points, because my copy of the book is entirely filled with highlighters and notes. But one of my favourite excerpt from the book is the following:

goals

Examine the first 100 people you meet, ask them what they want most in life, and 98 of them will not be able to tell you. If you press them for an answer, some will say security, many will say money; a few will say happiness; others will say fame and power…

But none of them will be able to define these terms, or give the slightest indication of a plan by which they hope to attain these vaguely expressed wishes.

Riches do not respond to wishes, they only respond to definite plans, backed by definite desires, through consistent persistence.
— Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill

The harsh reality is that most of us don’t even know exactly what we want in our lives. Let alone the specific plans to achieve these goals. How will you ever achieve greatness and success if you don’t know what you want in your life? You should never have your life under cruise control.

BRAINSTORM YOUR GOALS

First thing you need is to have a very specific and detailed goals in ALL venues of life. My goals are subcategorised into “professional”, “relationships”, “leisure and travel”, “finances” and “health”. It is very important that your goals are very specific and should include things like specific locations, exact sum of money and dates of event. Brainstorm and decide what it is that you want to achieve in your life and write them out.

Goals in writing are dreams with deadlines
— Brian Tracy

FAIL TO PLAN, PLAN TO FAIL

Everything starts with having clarity and specific vision in your life. After you’ve decided what your goals in life are, it’s important to build a very detailed map, a step-by-step process that will guide you towards your visions and goals. Don’t be abrupt and rush to complete your goals and plans, it’s your life, the blueprint to your success. Take time, think over and re-think it.

Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe
— Abraham Lincoln

ATTITUDE AND HUSTLE

After you’ve written down and brainstormed your goals in life and your plans, the next step is to develop a burning desire to execute your plans and achieve these goals. No one can have 100% control over the external factors and the environmental circumstances in their lives; but one thing that we do have 100% control over is our attitudes and how we react to certain situations. It is our attitudes and our daily decisions that separate the mediocrity from outrageous success.

Every decision you make, is not a decision about what you do, it is a decision about who you are. When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes – you begin to see life in a new way. All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do
— Neal Donald Walsh

FORMULA FOR SUCCESS

There are countless literature and philosophers that suggest that visualisation/manifestation technique alone is enough to achieve greatness and fulfil one’s visions. You should watch the movie “The Secret, the Law of Attraction” and read books like “Ask and It Is Given” by Esther and Jerry Hicks. Although it is questionable that, all you need to do is “ask” and “visualise” to achieve greatness; it is true that everything begins with understanding your higher purpose and vision in life. You are unlimited as the endless universe, and the only thing that is stopping you from achieving greatness is yourself and yourself only.

Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
