Like anything else, living a healthy lifestyle is an investment, your NO.1 asset. That’s why eating right is so important. You can’t expect to look like million dollars if you eat from the dollar menu – You ARE what you EAT.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to eat the right foods as we watch the shelves of food stores being filled with GMO, artificially sweetened and coloured foods.
Did you know that America, one of the most wealthiest country on earth, is suffering from serious public health deterioration compared to other countries, causing greater than before health care expenses and increased rates preventable disease?
Common Examples of Food Related Health Risks
Milk produced in the U.S. is on the list of banned foods in the European Union, Australia, Canada, Israel, and New Zealand due to the use of synthetic version of the hormone bovine somatotropin (BST). This synthetic hormone is known to cause increased risks of breast, prostate and colorectal cancer in consumers. Many processed foods in today’s shelves including cheese, cereals, Jell-O, and cheddar flavoured crackers are known to contain surplus amount of food additives known to increase the risks of cancer, behavioural and birth defects, in addition to allergy-like hypersensitivity reactions in children. Despite the research and growing awareness, many families are still blindly eating highly processed foods, oblivious to the fact that they are slowly killing themselves.
Aspartame
As consumers became more health-conscious, the devastating effects of Aspartame was revealed to the public. Aspartame is an artificial sweetener used as a substitute for sugar in many foods and beverages. It is deceptively labelled and sold as NutraSweet and Equal in many food products, emphasising their non-caloric properties as its selling point. What most people didn't know was that Aspartame is, by far, the most dangerous substance in the market due to its detrimental health complications and ubiquity. Aspartame accounts for over 75% of the adverse reactions to food additives reported by the FDA. Aspartame is accountable for minor health issues such as headaches and muscle spasms to serious chronic illnesses such as brain tumours, multiple sclerosis and diabetes. The problem is that, Aspartame is EVERYWHERE. If you are not conscious when grocery shopping, it is very likely that at least one or two products in your shopping cart will contain Aspartame.
It's about Habits
Vegetables and fruits covered with pesticides, GMO meats and products contaminated with toxic chemicals are virtually everywhere. You are what you eat -- stay conscious in what you are buying, carefully study food labels and purchase organic foods. Some of you would say, “Organic foods are for people with money to burn.” The reality is, most of us who are privileged enough to live in developed countries wouldn't drink contaminated water, nor would we fill our cars with contaminated fuel. Then why should we eat foods that are toxic? Eating right and striving towards healthier body is not something that you buy -- it's a lifestyle, it's a choice. It's no longer safe to assume that food products sold in supermarkets are safe.
